Matt Hughes has been in the real estate business almost his entire life. His parents were active real estate investors for decades and Matt, even as a young man, actively participated in their business.
After receiving his B.A., Matt continued working in the family venture, getting involved in all aspects of real estate investing from scouting for properties, to renovation, to tenant selection and all other aspects of property management. At this time, Matt also became a real estate investor in his own right.
He acquired his real estate license almost five years ago and affiliated with a local brokerage. After some time in the brokerage end of the business, he decided to specialize instead of being a generalist. Naturally he gravitated back to what he knows best, property management.
He started his own firm, Farm River Property Management, LLC in September 2018 and recently expanded it to include brokerage. As a result, Matt is able to offer his clients a turn key operation, if needed, or instead, an a la carte selection of services. His goal is to provide outstanding service to his clients who are typically busy managing their own businesses. And while they believe that a real estate portfolio is a good way to build wealth over time, most just don’t have the time or skill to personally run their investments . To meet their need, Matt provides excellent tenant selection and management. With a keen eye for infrastructure issues, he advises his clients regarding risk assessment and management and initiates and supervises capital projects when necessary. He is current on housing issues and legislation and well informed about zoning issues that may effect rent rolls and marketability of a property. The goal is always to create value by increasing income and maintaining and improving the property in a cost efficient way.
To realize this objective, Matt has put together a team that can be deployed quickly to handle emergencies, routine maintenance and larger projects. He is also supported by efficient administrative staff.
Matt is currently a member of the board at his condominium and in the past, served as sub-committee chairman. He also was a Trustee at the Blackstone Library in Branford.
